On June 1st, I will be leaving Iowa to spend the next eight weeks as I study abroad in Arica, Chile. There are several theories on how Chile received its name. One theory says that its name is derived from the native Mapuche word chilli, which may mean "where the land ends". Thus, the name of my blog. I hope many of my family and friends will find my posts and pictures interesting as well as a great way for me to stay in touch!
I am fortunate to be travelling with 15 other students from the University of Northern Iowa. We will be attending the University of Tarapacรก and will be fully emerged into the Spanish language and culture. The nine hours I earn this summer will be accredited to fulfilling my Spanish Teaching degree at UNI.
I look forward to staying with my host family, Antonio and Karla. I am very excited to meet them and get a chance to explore Chile and Peru. I will try to update this as much as possible and post plenty of pictures.
The next time I will be writing I will be in Chile!! =)
